The Need for Water Wells in Africa

Water is essential to life. In the arid regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, access to clean water is one of the most fundamental challenges of daily life. A lack of water sources can force people to leave their villages. A village water well helps meet the water needs of people and other living beings while also supporting local farming.

The process of constructing a water well is planned according to local conditions. Ground composition—whether rock, sand or soil—the depth required to reach water, and the construction method all affect the time and cost involved. Material and labour costs also vary between countries and even between regions within the same country. Each well project therefore requires an assessment of both local needs and geological conditions.
